WHY buy more when you can upcycle for less?
Bank Holidays mean DIY for many of us, with the kitchen being the focus for many.
The cost of a new kitchen can cost an average of £8,000, but there are budget tricks to slash that price.
From covering your fridge to painting your cabinets, here is how to upgrade this Bank Holiday weekend.
CLEAN UP THOSE CABINETS: Updating cabinets with a lick of paint is the fastest way to create a glam new look.
Bold colours such as teal and navy are popular right now. First, you need to clean up to get rid of any grease. You can buy all-purpose commercial degreaser for around £12 but a bucket of warm water and diluted washing-up liquid will also do the trick and it’s just 50p at Asda.
BRUSH UP: Next, give those cupboards a lick of paint. Wilko has an affordable range — get the Quick Dry cupboard furniture paint at £10 for 750ml. It’s much cheaper than Dulux, £19 at B&Q.
Use masking tape to cover handles for a more professional finish.
FRIDGE SAVER: A new fridge or freezer can cost hundreds but you can give your old one a makeover with a vinyl wrap.
There are some great affordable ones on Amazon and you can watch YouTube videos to see how to apply them.
I am keen on vinylrevolution.co.uk too, where you can get a selection of block colours, starting at £24.99, depending on the size.
FANCY FLOORS: If you’re not one of the lucky ones who pulls back their lino to find a perfect wood floor, don’t worry — you can get a wood-effect floor in a jiffy with the pale grey herringbone vinyl at Tapi (search for Arcadia Bernini style) for £13.99 per square metre.
To save even more, use vinyl tile stickers to create a chic look on the cheap.
Studio.co.uk has 11-packs of monochrome tiles in a lovely pattern for just £5.99 per pack.

Deal of the day
SORT out dinner with a Pizza Express Sloppy Giuseppe pizza from Sainsbury’s for just £2.50. Usually £5.
NAB a bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin for £22 from Ocado. Usually £27.50.
ICE cream, anyone?
Aldi is selling an ice cream maker for £29.99 as one of the store’s Special Buys – and it’s super easy to use, promising easy-to-whip-up soft-serve ice cream in just 15 to 25 minutes.
The machine is available online only and makes approximately one litre of ice cream – meaning there will be enough to treat all the family.
I LOVE a Fab strawberry ice lolly, £2.20 for a six-pack at Morrisons. But Gianni’s Ice Blitz, 89p for six at Aldi, is a pretty savvy swap.
