4 min read

The Money Saving Expert is sharing 11 “McHacks” so you can make your pennies stretch further.

McDonalds have an app peckish customers can order from and these discounts only apply when ordering directly from McDonalds, so not including UberEats or Just Eat, The Money Saving Expert blog reports.

With McDonald’s opening up their restaurants, it is the perfect time to make the most of these deals and thrifty ways to make the most of your cash.

Martin Lewis ’s newsletter highlighted a special deal for customers who have the McDonald’s App.

Customers can get £5 off any £15 order until Friday at 11.59pm through the app.

There is specific tab titled “Deals” and tap the Spent £15 get £5 off button, this can be done before getting into the restaurant.

However you can only use this offer once and it cannot be used in conjunction with any other deals.

But that is not all. The team at Money Saving Expert have found several hacks so that you can get your next McDonald’s order for less.

Look out for Monday Deals

McDonald’s run a weekly promotion that appears in the app every Monday morning which can be used up until 11.59pm the same day.

Check the details, or turn the notifications on so you don’t miss out.

With all app deals, they are only available when you order on the app and collect.

Grab a Big Mac and fries for £1.99 every time

The Money Saving Expert highlights that there’s a “Food for Thoughts” code at the top of most McDonald’s receipts.

Customers can go online fill a quick survey and receive a second code that they can then exchange in McDonald’s for a Big Mac and fries for £1.99 (normally around £4).

The best part of this is that you can then use that new receipt to do the survey again and now you can get discounted Big Macs every time.

Save £1.90 with a DIY ‘Big Mac’

Rather than paying £3.49, customers can save £1.90 by building their own in this thrifty way.

Order a Double Cheeseburger for £1.59, add the following free extras to have the ingredients of a Big Mac: ‘extra’ onions and pickles, plus shredded lettuce.

The add-ons don’t cost extra but the iconic middle bread is missing. However those at the Money Saving Expert blog thinks it’s worth if for a 55 percent saving.

Get a “McChicken sandwich” for £2.50 cheaper

The guys at Money Saving put two sandwiches to the test. A £3.49 McChicken Sandwich and a 99p Mayo chicken.

Although there is a 25 percent difference in weight, they have exactly the same components. Chicken, lettuce and mayonnaise.

In fact you could eat three mayo chickens and still be cheaper than the McChicken Sandwich.

Using the self order screens, or the app, customers can add extra sauces, onions, pickles , mayo for free to any burger and then double the amount if the burger already has them.

No need to pay for Sugar Tax

While some fizzy juices have a sugar tax, only one is affected in McDonald’s – Original Coca-Cola.

So the Money Saving Experts encourage you to buy any other drink and avoid the extra cost.

Get eight extra chicken nuggets for £1.99 less

Buying a McNuggets ShareBox of 20 nuggs (£4.99) works out cheaper than buying two boxes of six which total £6.98

If your family or the group you’re with want two or more McNugget meals, ordering the ShareBox and fries/drinks separately gets you more for less too. Prices can vary slightly by location.

Say ‘NO’ to ice and ‘YES’ to 20{9670350b45c49ee3dc8792284767a5b4ffafe0cfe03225e3eb632463a44db818} more drink?

This one is probably the most known trick, asking specifically for no ice means that the staff will have to fill your cup to the top and therefore give you more fizzy juice to wash down those fries.

Buy six hot drinks and get one free

Unfortunately, this long running loyalty scheme is getting scrapped at the end of June so be sure to cash in those stickers.

With each hot drink you are given a sticker and then can claim the seventh for free by exchanging the collected six tickets at the till.

Students get a ‘free’ burger or McFlurry

Most students know about this one, or at least should do. With a valid student ID or an account with Student Beans, you can claim a free Cheeseburger, Mayo Chicken or McFlurry.

However to qualify, you also need to order an Extra Value Meal, show your student ID at the till and is available after 10.30am.

This can’t be used with any other offer.
